Vani

Where Colchian gold still breathes

Vani

Vani was a thriving temple city of the ancient Colchian kingdom, the same realm that sent Jason and the Argonauts home with the Golden Fleece. Excavations since 1947 have unearthed sanctuaries, fortifications, and tombs that reveal a sophisticated culture blending local traditions with Greek, Persian, and Hellenistic influences. The on-site museum holds extraordinary finds: ritual bronze sculptures, exquisite gold jewelry from elite burials, and architectural fragments that speak to Vani's role as a religious and political center. Unlike more famous sites, Vani remains intimate and contemplative—you walk among foundations where priests once conducted sacrifices, with the rolling Imereti landscape unchanged across millennia.
