Shilda

Where ancient roots meet steel and glass

Shilda

Shilda sits in the Alazani Valley's eastern sweep, a landscape of terraced vineyards that have fed Kakheti's wine culture for eight millennia. The Shilda Winery, opened in 2015, represents Georgia's vinous future: a striking contemporary facility where qvevri amphorae rest in the cellar floor alongside gleaming stainless steel tanks. This is no museum piece. The winery processes grapes from surrounding village plots, continuing the region's tradition of smallholder viticulture while applying precise temperature control to both Saperavi reds and Rkatsiteli whites. Visitors witness the dialogue between methods—fermentation in clay underground, aging in French oak—within architecture that respects the valley's horizontal lines. The tasting room opens onto vineyard rows that climb toward the Caucasus foothills.
