Tvishi

Honeyed gold from terraced heights

Tvishi

Tvishi is the semi-sweet white jewel of Lechkhumi, pressed from Tsolikouri grapes grown on vertiginous Rioni River terraces that have been carved into the mountains for centuries. Unlike the more famous Kakhetian qvevri wines, Tvishi ferments in cooler conditions that preserve the grape's natural sugars, yielding a wine of delicate apricot and wildflower honey with a spine of alpine freshness. These terraces—some of the steepest cultivated in Georgia—represent a continuous agricultural heritage dating to the Colchis era, when this same region supplied wine to ancient Greek traders. The wine rewards those who seek Georgia beyond its headline appellations.
