Okatse River Canyon Trail

Suspended above the emerald abyss

Okatse River Canyon Trail

The Okatse River Canyon Trail delivers one of Georgia's most accessible yet dramatic gorge experiences. A 780-meter elevated walkway clings to the canyon wall, culminating in a cantilevered glass-floored observation platform that hovers directly over the 100-meter drop to the river below. The trail winds through dense Colchic rainforest—one of the world's oldest temperate ecosystems—where moss-draped trees and wild azaleas frame every turn. Built by the municipal government of Khoni and opened in 2014, the infrastructure transformed a remote village into a sustainable tourism hub. The payoff is visceral: standing on glass, watching the Okatse churn through limestone narrows, with the sound of water rising from depths you can feel in your chest.
