Why go
Okro's Wines is a small family winery in Sighnaghi run by Zurab and his sons, who have been making natural qvevri wines since 2004. Their cellar holds terracotta vessels buried underground—the 8,000-year-old Georgian method now recognized by UNESCO. What distinguishes Okro's is the intimacy: Zurab personally guides tastings, explaining how his family farms organic vineyards and ferments grapes with skins for months in clay. You taste Rkatsiteli amber wine and Saperavi red in the same stone building where they're made, surrounded by the rolling Alazani Valley. The wines are honest, unfiltered, and expressive—this is not polished tourism but living heritage shared without pretense.
