Chateau Mere

Where modern craft meets ancient valley light

Chateau Mere

Chateau Mere is a contemporary winery and boutique hotel perched above the Alazani Valley in the Telavi district, built by Georgian winemaker Giorgi Margvelashvili. Unlike the region's traditional qvevri cellars, this estate represents Kakheti's emerging modern face—steel tanks and French oak alongside indigenous grape varieties like Saperavi and Rkatsiteli. The estate commands one of the valley's most photographed viewpoints, with the Caucasus range framing endless vineyards. It matters because it bridges eras: you taste how Georgian wine culture is evolving without abandoning its roots, all from a terrace where the horizon seems to breathe.

On the ground See

  • Guided tasting of estate wines including amber Rkatsiteli and Saperavi, with explanation of both qvevri and modern vinification methods
  • Sunset dinner on the open terrace overlooking the Alazani Valley's patchwork vineyards and distant mountain ridges
  • Walk through the working winery's production areas to observe harvest-season activity (September-October)
