Bzipi Valley

Svaneti's hidden alpine sanctuary

Bzipi Valley

Bzipi Valley is one of Svaneti's most pristine and least visited alpine corridors, a place where medieval Svan defensive towers still punctuate village skylines without the crowds of Ushguli or Mestia. The valley preserves an older rhythm of highland life: families still maintain seasonal transhumance to summer pastures, and the 10th-11th century churches of Tvibi and Lakhamula contain frescoes rarely seen by outsiders. Its trails connect to the southern approaches of Mount Ushba and the Guli Pass crossing toward Racha, making it essential for trekkers seeking genuine solitude in the Greater Caucasus. This is Svaneti before tourism rewrote it.
