Batumi Alphabet Tower

Where 33 letters touch the Black Sea sky

Batumi Alphabet Tower

The Alphabet Tower rises like a double-stranded DNA of language, its 33 steel letters spiraling 130 meters above Batumi's waterfront promenade. Unveiled in 2012, this architectural monument celebrates Georgia's unique Mkhedruli script—one of only 14 independent writing systems worldwide still in active use. The tower embodies a nation's stubborn linguistic survival through centuries of empires. An elevator ascends through the hollow core to a glass-walled observation deck where the Caucasus Mountains dissolve into Turkey, and the Black Sea stretches toward horizons that once carried Greek, Persian, and Russian fleets. At night, the letters ignite in sequence, spelling out Georgia's ancient name—Sakartvelo—across the sky.
