Abudelauri Colored Lakes

Three lakes, three colors, one unforgettable hike

Abudelauri Colored Lakes

The Abudelauri Colored Lakes lie in the shadow of the jagged Chaukhi Massif, a formation locals call the "Georgian Dolomites." Glacial melt and mineral deposits have painted each basin its own impossible shade—emerald green, milky turquoise, and chalk-white—creating a chromatic sequence that shifts with the angle of sun and season. Unlike the crowded trails around Kazbegi, this 3,000-meter sanctuary in the Khevsureti foothills rewards those who make the trek with profound solitude and a landscape that feels more alpine fantasy than Caucasian reality.

On the ground See

  • The Green Lake (Mtsvane), whose color comes from submerged vegetation and algae thriving in its shallow depths
  • The White Lake (Tetri), fed by glacial flour that suspends fine rock particles in milky suspension
  • The Blue Lake (Tsiteli), the deepest and highest, drawing its saturated cobalt from mineral-rich springs and depth
